The very first time I smelled Coromandel, something inside my mind switched on. I really had to have it, and I couldn’t afford it. This unbearable tension created an intense burning desire in me. I kept hanging around the Chanel boutique in Brisbane just to smell it again. I purchased a small decant one day and with great joy sprayed it on my skin. Somewhere along that glorious road into the heart of Coromandaville, I stumbled and fell off my obsession. I looked around for potholes and ditches to see what had caused me to falter, and then I discovered hiding behind the lacquered screen of swashbuckling patchouli was a table laden with caramel cake and white chocolate pudding. I was heartbroken. How could this be true? This was the exact moment that my inner perfumer was born. I wanted my own exotic boudoir of sublime patchouli… a savoury landscape of dry, rusty, mouth-puckering tartness to carry me back to the 1920s. I wanted to visit Jiddu Krishnamurti, stay all Summer in a Russian dacha, trek up into the Himalayan mountains, fly a kite with monks in Lhasa, discover the door into Shangri La.

Shakti eau de parfum is not in any way a copy of  Coromandel, it is my tribute to the Great Mother, to the source of life, the Creatrix. My heartfelt offering to the mystery and wonder of life. I’m totally transported when I wear her perfume. Taken to places in lands I yearn to be, enfolded in an embrace so true, that I find that Shakti is my destination.
