BLACKBIRD explores the ache of longing for another person: their touch, their scent and their presence, especially in the blackest of nights. Haunting memories of what was are rendered as a plush velvet drape of jasmine, leather and oud. Its animalic jasmine-leather-amber character is built with oud rather than civet, and without aldehydes.
Teone Reinthal has described vintage Chanel No. 5 and its later formulations as inspirations for the fragrance’s expansive, plush presence. She reflected on Gabrielle Chanel’s reported grief after the loss of Boy Capel while composing her own artisan interpretation of that emotional weight. BLACKBIRD is not intended as a dupe of No. 5. Its story reaches beyond private yearning toward a renewed world of love, life, joy, peace, freedom and harmony.
Gardenia, night-blooming jasmine, jasmine grandiflorum, rose de Mai and osmanthus bring a lush floral presence. Cedarwood, patchouli, labdanum, musk root, sandalwood, aged oud and vanilla deepen the composition. According to the maker, the fragrance will continue to develop its profile over the coming weeks.
